Amarachi Ihezie, a Nigerian graduate whose story went viral a few days ago for working as a keke driver despite possessing a university degree, has spoken out about her situation. Amarachi said that she became a tricycle rider after becoming dissatisfied with her previous low-paying teaching job.
Some passengers, according to Amarachi even leave their change for her. She also said in a BBC News Pidgin interview that when she told her friends she wanted to be a driver, they laughed and told her she was heading into a male-dominated field.
According to Amarachi "People began to look at me with disdain, as if i ama graduate who ended up being a keke driver. I didn't care what people thoughts are as I went about my work with pride".
She also stated that one of the obstacles she encounters as a female driver is figuring out how to relieve herself whenever she wants to pee.
The experience has been fantastic, according to the graduate who became a driver four months ago. "People sometimes buy fuel for me, leave their change, and pray for me. When business is good, I normally up-to earn N8,000 per day.
The lady stated that she earns N8,000 per day on occasion. She saves N4,000 or N5,000 for the keke owner whenever this happens. N1,000 is for the next day's fuel, and N2,000 is for her.
