An escaped lion was caught roaming through a luxury residential neighbourhood in Dubai.

The big cat was spotted by a number of concerned residents in Al Barsha after it had slipped out of its owner's home.

Immediately police patrols along with the Veterinary Services Department members of Dubai Municipality arrived at the site and surrounded the lion.

Legal action will be initiated against the owner, he said.

Meanwhile, Hashim Al Awadhi, Head of Veterinary Services Department, Dubai Municipality, said that the lion was transferred to Dubai zoo.

He stressed that it was illegal in the city to keep big cats at home.
