Nigerian-Canadian Artist is shaking Toronto with his Solo exhibition debut, be there!

GTA artist/ self-admitted OCAD University reject is set to follow up his impressive solo exhibition debut with a bigger one and you are invited.

PICKERING, Ontario -- August 8, 2017 -- Sigma Foxx, a Nigerian Canadian artist who specializes in conceptual and surreal photography, is proud to announce his new solo art exhibition, “Smoke A Sig 2,” at Narwhal contemporary gallery in Toronto from August 17-23.

The 24-year-old Pickering resident has been making great impressions in the Toronto art scene in recent years with appearances in a number of group shows as well as his own first solo display in April of last year. This year’s show is gearing up to be his most ambitious one yet, with more than 20 new pieces to be displayed in a week-long showing.

He has rented a pretty space, shot some creative video commercials (he is trailing treats in one and he is paddling in a most unexpected place in another) and he even travelled out of province to Banff, Alberta, in June for some nature shots, after fielding suggestions from his fans on social media.

"I ended up on a tourist bus full of retirees in the middle of the week in Banff and they were all looking at me funny like, ‘what’s this young gun doing here?’ In my head, I was like, ‘just staying hungry, sirs, ma’ams...just doing whatever it takes to reach the next level.’" The self-taught artist had an interesting take when asked about the show's theme: "it’s more about creating a certain vibe, no matter how different the stylistic techniques from piece to piece.

My ultimate goal is to ‘trip’ the human mind into a colourful world where crazy concepts and ideas make sense.

I really look forward to seeing each viewer’s response.” Do not be surprised if there is a multimedia dimension to his presentation, as Sigma Foxx is proving to be pretty formidable in cinematography as well as music production, having released two songs (“Numero Uno” and “Traitor”) and a short conceptual video piece called The Other Side earlier this year. One thing is for sure: not getting into art school must have really lit a fire in his belly. That fire is clearly still burning bright and being productively channelled, seven years later.

Opening night is August 17, 7pm-11:30pm at 2104 Dundas street west with a $10 admission fee at the door. More dates will be announced after opening night. For more information, contact: Ayo Alade, at www.sigmafoxx.com/contact or at 647-703-2996.
