“Liver disease killed my daughter. It’ll take away my son too without help”

Update: 9-year-old Harsh is suffering from end-stage liver disease. He will lose his life if he doesn’t get a liver transplant urgently.

"My daughter was my dream," Priyanka says, her eyes swollen, red and wet. "But I lost my dream. It is the hardest thing in the world to describe. And now, I dread that I’ll lose my son, too."

There is no word in any language for a parent who has lost his child because the human heart can’t even imagine the overwhelming grief. Back in 2014, Priyanka and Rahul lost their 6-year-old daughter, Muskaan to deadly liver disease.

“She suddenly got jaundice and her stomach started bloating. When her disease was finally diagnosed, it was too late. Before we could even do anything, we lost our Muskaan,” Priyanka says, wiping her tears.

It was her son, Harsh, who was affected the most by Muskaan’s demise. “He was just 4 back then. He didn’t know where his sister went. One day she was home with him and the next day, she was gone- forever,” Priyanka tells.

A sorrow that is beyond words.

Priyanka and Rahul’s loss was irreplaceable. But as days passed, they slowly tried to put their lives back on track. However, tragedy hit them again soon after Harsh turned nine and started falling sick frequently. Back in May, he got a severe fever which refused to subside.

After a couple of weeks, even his stomach started bloating. Haunted and traumatized, his parents rushed him to the hospital where a series of tests revealed that he is suffering from end-stage liver disease. Priyanka and Rahul were devastated.

The doctors soon told them that the only hope for Harsh’s recovery is an urgent liver transplant which will cost USD 26,923.00, an amount impossible for them to raise.

“I’ve already lost a child to this deadly disease. I can’t lose Harsh. Every single day, I ask God to take my life, and beg Him to show mercy on my son,” Priyanka cries.

They’ve seen the worst pain in life, but this is unbearable.

Harsh’s health is worsening with each passing day. His life had changed overnight. Once an active child, he can barely sit now. His stomach is painfully swollen and he constantly has a fever. He remains confined to his bed. On days when it gets too much, he wails in pain.

“I hold his hands many nights as I am haunted by the fear of losing him. I feel like I am losing a piece of me. I’ll die if anything happens to Harsh. He is all I have,” cries Priyanka.

For months, she and Rahul have been struggling to arrange funds for their son’s surgery, but to no avail. Rahul’s income is just about enough to make ends meet. There is no way the couple can get the required sum.

How can you help?

Priyanka and Rahul will lose a child again if Harsh doesn’t get the surgery urgently. Your contributions can go a long way. Please donate generously and save a child.
