The NLC Has One Message For Governors, ‘Pay Your Workers Before You Leave Office’

The Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) has created a task force to ensure that governors across the federation pay their workers up to date before vacating office.

The NLC also formally inaugurated the Reconciliation Committee headed by Aliyu Dangiwa, the first General Secretary of NLC charged with reconciling and returning to the fold the aggrieved parties in the 11th Delegates Conference.

In a communiqué issued at the end of the meeting, the congress also announced its decision to picket the office of the Post Master General for “unlawful and illegal diversion of the check-off dues of members of NUPTE to another union without the consent of NUPTE,” adding that his action is a violation of the Trade Union Laws and the 1999 Constitution (as amended) which guarantees freedom of association.

The communiqué signed by NLC president Dr. Ayuba Wabba and General Secretary, Dr. Peter Ozo-Eson also set up an eleven-member May-Day committee with the responsibility of preparing, facilitating and executing the May Day celebration.

The communiqué reads in part, “Constitute a Committee of Experts to formulate a cogent and coherent response to the emerging issues in the economy as well as advance an alternative development agenda that will address the concerns of workers.

The CWC also congratulated the new leadership as well as urged them not to succumb to distractions or irritations but nonetheless to extend a hand of fellowship to the aggrieved parties at the 11th Delegates Conference.
