An 87-year-old grandmother is fighting for her life at Kyeni Mission Hospital in Embu after her 90-year-old husband slashed her several times with a machete.
Ms Patricia Njeri was viciously attacked at her Kavinduri village home on Monday evening.
The mother of six suffered multiple cuts on the head and limbs in the attack that shocked the village. She was rushed to hospital in unconscious state.
Embu East Administration Police Commandant Charles Machinji said the unapologetic old man later presented himself at Karurumo AP post with the blood-stained panga and told the police he had just killed someone.
CRITICALLY INJURED
According to Mr Machinji, the assailant said his wife had been nagging him and he got fed up of her constant irritations.
“The suspect didn’t appear disturbed by what he had done. He said he had killed her because she had disturbed him for long,” said Mr Machinji.
Police arrested the man and rushed to the crime scene where they found Ms Njeri lying in a pool of blood.
Mr Machinji said the woman is still unconscious and doctors have described her condition as critical due to excessive bleeding.
