It wasn't all a story of joy for two dog thieves after an angry mob descended on them scarred for life.
Two men accused of stealing and killing two dogs were beaten up and publicly humiliated by an angry mob. The men were accused of shooting their neighbours' dogs with slingshots before poisoning them.
According to the Guiyang Evening News, a man called Mr Xiao said he caught the two men shooing his dogs in his backyard at 6am. He shouted to two of his neighbours who chased the alleged thieves after they fell into a trench while trying to escape.
The angry villagers tied them to an electricity pole and hung the dead dogs around their necks after beating them to a pulp.The thieves were saved by police officers who came to the scene and calmed the situation.
The incident happened in southwest China's Guizhou Province, where more than 100 government police officers were eventually dispatched to handle the situation. The alleged dog thieves have been detained by police who are investigating their reported beating.
