The Best stadium in Nigeria: Top 5

Nigeria is a country known to be very passionate about football and sports in general. Our fans are football crazy. Nigeria has hosted some football events notably the 1980 African nations cup, the 1999 under 20 world cup and the year 2000 Nations cup co-hosted with Ghana. These has instigated the construction of some beautiful and high standard stadiums in the country. Some few years ago when it was built, the National stadium in Abuja was rated by FIFA as the most beautiful stadium in the country and one of the most beautiful in Africa. Most recent ratings last year shows that the National stadium has dropped off the required standard. The maintenance culture on the sport edifice has not been given prompt attention. There have been so much questions and debates about the best stadium in Nigeria.

In this article, our point of focus shall be the most beautiful stadium in Nigeria. We will consider factors such as the standard of training facilities, maintenance and the state of the football pitch.


#1 Godswill Akpabio international stadium, Uyo Akwa Ibom state:
This is clearly the most beautiful stadium right now in the country. It has states of the arts training facilities and the pitch is according to the FIFA standards. The stadium was built by Julius berger according to the FIFA standards. It is not the biggest stadium in Nigeria, but when it comes to facilities and beauty, this stadium is ranked as the best stadium in Nigeria. Everything in the stadium is according to the latest FiFA standard and technology. The stadium is situated in Uyo, Akwa Ibom state. It has a capacity of 30,000 seats. It has hosted over 90% of the Home matches of the super eagles in the past two Years. An estimated amount of $250 million was spent in building the stadium. Indeed,Akwa Ibom people should be thankful to Godswill Akpabio for devoiding the unstable trend of Nigerian politics to erect the sport edifice.

#2 Abuja National stadium
The Abuja National stadium is located in the city of Abuja, the centre of politics in Nigeria. It is the largest and the most expensive stadium in Nigeria
It cost the country a whooping $360 million to construct the stadium and it is a 60,000 seated. It was erected to host the 2003 All Africa games. In terms of beauty, the Abuja stadium is currently rated as the 2nd best stadium in Nigeria

#3 Teslim Balogun Stadium
The Tealim Balogun stadium was built by former Lagos state Governor Babatunde Fashola. It is located opposite the Lagos National stadium. It is 25,000 capacity football centre and was named after the Lagosian Football legend, Teslim Balogun.

#4 U. J. Esuene Stadium
This stadium is considered by many Nigerians as a “magic wand centre” for the super eagles. They super eagles are always very lucky when they play in the U. J. Esuene stadium. It is located in the town of Calabar, Cross River state. It was once the most beautiful stadium in Nigeria but has fallen on the ratings. That not withstanding, it still one of the best stadium in Nigeria.It has a 16,000 capacity.


#5 Liberation Stadium
The liberation stadium, port Harcourt is the home of Rivers united football club. Aside from football pitch, it has pitches for other sport events. It has a capacity of 30,000. The liberation stadium is clearly the 5th best stadium in Nigeria.

On the whole, the most beautiful stadium in Nigeria is the Akwa Ibom state international stadium, Uyo. It has the latest facilities and equipments that meets the current standard.
