Moses and Ighalo shortlisted for English Premiership African Player of the Month award

SUPER Eagles strikers Victor Moses and Odion Ighalo are among five players nominated for the September edition of the English Premier League’s African Player of the Month after putting in impressive performances for the clubs over the last month.

Ighalo, 26, is one of the hottest properties in the Premiership at the moment, being the third highest goalscorer in the league. He has been highly instrumental to his club Watford's great start to the season that sees them sitting in mid table despite only just being promoted from the Championship.

Moses, 24, has also been in great form for West Ham, the club he has been loaned to for the duration of the 2015/16 season. He was particularly scintillating when he led West Ham to a shock 2-1 away victory over leaders Manchester City on September 19 where he opened the scoring.

Tunde Adelakun, the awards director, said: “Africans hit the ground running in the Premier League in August and although Andre Ayew won it, many performances by Africans were worthy of note and mention. This month has not been different.

“We have a shortlist of five players this month because we have not been able to separate our players in terms of brilliance this month. The standard has been that high.”

Leicester City’s Riyad Mahrez from Algeria, who has netted five goals this season, makes a return to the top performers chart this month. Apart from Moses and Ighalo, others who make the list include Cameroonian Sebastian Bassong from Norwich and Mame Biram Diouf of Senegal from Stoke City.
