Return of Enyeama: Nigeria trashed Cameroon 3-0

Nigeria’s Super Eagles  in Belgium redeem their image with a 3-0 thrashing of Indomitable Lions of Cameroon. After the shambolic show of shame against DRC on Thursday, Coach Sunday Oliseh succeeded in charged his boys in raised their game to brought Volker Finke’s side down to their feet in Belgium and ease pressure on him following his falling out with Lille goalkeeper Vincent Enyeama.

Goals from Efe Ambrose, Moses Simon and Odion Ighalo were all the Nigerians needed to return to winning ways

The Celtic defender rose above the Cameroon defence to power home a free kick from the right taken by Mikel Obi. Incidentally, it was just minutes after Ambrose almost put the ball into his own net when his back pass beat an onrushing goalkeeper Carl Ikeme.

Moses Simon scored his second Eagles goal on the hour when he blasted past the Cameroon goalkeeper after he was released by skipper Ahmed Musa. Substitute Odion Ighalo took the game beyond the Cameroonians with a third goal two minutes from time when he headed home off a delightful cross by Elderson Echiejile from the left flank.

The Super Eagles will be looking to redeem themselves after losing 2-0 to the Leopards of DR Congo on Thursday.

It was a game characterized with a lot lethargic play and a subdued performance that probably resonated from the squabbles in the team’s camp few days before the game. Former captain Vincent Enyeama had a fall out with Oliseh and subsequently left the Eagles camp. A few hours later, he announced his international retirement.

The last time Nigeria and Cameroun met, it was a 2-1 victory for the Super Eagles as a Jay Jay Okocha inspired Eagles lead Nigeria to a quarter final win over the Lions at the Africa Cup of Nations in Tunisia in 2004.
