Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa, accompanied by a retinue of aides and members of the state executive council, made a poignant visit to the family of the late Governor Rotimi Akeredolu in Ibadan. He recognized his immense contributions and the profound impact he had during his lifetime. The atmosphere was somber and reflective as the new governor conveyed his deep condolences and support to the bereaved family.
In a poignant address during the condolence visit to the Akeredolu family, Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa conveyed profound sympathy and support to Chief Mrs. Betty Akeredolu, the family, members of the state executive council, and well-wishers present. Expressing shared grief and mourning, Governor Aiyedatiwa emphasized the interconnectedness between Governor Akeredolu and the people of Ondo State, acknowledging the depth of the loss experienced by the entire nation.
The governor hailed the late Governor Rotimi Akeredolu “He is a remarkable leader whose legacy reverberates not just within his family or Ondo State but across the entire nation”
He eulogized Governor Akeredolu’s boldness, courage, and unwavering commitment to pursuing his convictions, emphasizing the indelible impact of his leadership in areas such as security, education, and infrastructure.
Reflecting on Governor Akeredolu’s various roles as a statesman, father, husband, community leader, and devout Christian, Governor Aiyedatiwa highlighted the late governor’s purposeful life and the multitude of lives he touched.
In a solemn tribute, Governor Aiyedatiwa acknowledged that “life is a journey with its blessings and challenges” expressing the belief that Governor Akeredolu had completed his purpose on earth and had transitioned to be with the Lord.

Pastor Kola Akeredolu, speaking on behalf of the Akeredolu family, extended heartfelt appreciation to Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa for his condolence visit, expressing gratitude for the governor’s support during this period of mourning.
Expressing the family’s sentiments, Pastor Kola Akeredolu stated, “We are profoundly grateful to Governor Aiyedatiwa for his heartfelt visit. His presence and comforting words during this challenging time mean a lot to us. We appreciate the governor’s support and solidarity, which have brought solace to our grieving hearts.”
He acknowledged the shared grief and the governor’s compassionate gesture as evidence to the enduring bond between the late Governor Rotimi Akeredolu and the state.
He concluded by expressing sincere appreciation on behalf of the Akeredolu family for Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa’s visit, recognizing the governor’s empathy and support during this period of bereavement.
Others in attendance were Princess Catherine Oladunni Odu, Secretary to the state government, Senator Niyi Adegbonmire SAN, also the former minister of state for transportation, Ademola Adegoroye.
Recall that the late governor had previously returned to Nigeria in September after a three-month medical absence in Germany. Subsequently, following directives from President Bola Tinubu, he embarked on another medical leave, during which he formally handed over power to his deputy, Lucky Aiyedatiwa. As the deputy, Aiyedatiwa had been fulfilling his duties in an acting capacity and has now taken the oath to assume the role of governor.
