What can you steal from hotel rooms? And what you cannot

At some point of time we all have taken a few trinkets from our hotel room. Taking things like shampoos, soaps and other toiletries is fine, but taking other stuff can land you up in jail or even get you banned from booking a room in that hotel ever.

emember that episode in Friends when

on what one can and cannot take from a hotel.

He explains the silver line between stealing from hotel and taking things that the hotel you are staying at owes you.

We all related to that hilarious episode because at some point of time we all have taken a few trinkets from our hotel room.

From the tiny bottles of shampoo and conditioner to the comfy slippers and robes, hotels are filled to the brim with souvenirs just waiting for you to steal them.

Now taking things like shampoos, soaps and other toiletries is fine, but taking other stuff, like coffee mugs, bathrobes can land you up trouble.

In fact, you can even get banned from booking a room in that hotel ever.

According to an international daily, taking towels, coffe mugs and robes is a crime and if hotels inform police about it, you can be jailed.

Reportedly, a woman in Nigeria was sentenced to three months in prison after she stole towels from the Transcorp Hilton Abuja Hotel.

Hotels all around the world lose a few hundred dollars each month due to customer theft, so they generally resort to two options in such cases. Either they call the cops on you or they simply charge you for the stolen item.

So next time, maybe go for the items that a hotel wouldn’t mind you taking away and not go for the big items.
