The Nigerian Navy has apprehended four stowaways caught onboard MT RIVER SHINER vessel at the Lagos anchorage.
The BEECROFT patrol team made the arrest during a routine harbour patrol.
Nigerian Navy Ship (NNS) BEECROFT Commander, Commodore Bashir Mohammed, made the announcement.
Mohammed said the personnel noticed suspicious movement of a wooden boat around the stern section of the vessel.
While conducting a search, the Nigerians were found inside the propeller housing, Eons Intelligence reports.
During the interrogation, the stowaways disclosed that they came to Lagos from different parts of the country.
They claimed to have lived with a friend at Sagbo Koji community, an island settlement on Sea school channel-Apapa channel.
“They confessed it was at Sagbo Koji that they heard about stowaway missions and decided to travel to Europe,” Mohammed noted.
The suspects have been handed over to the Nigerian Immigration Service (NIS) for further investigation and prosecution.
