OTTAWA - The Canadian government on Tuesday said it would expand its military mission against Islamic State by launching air strikes against positions in Syria as well as Iraq.
A government motion also said Canada planned to extend its six-month mission by a year to March 2016. Canada has around 70 special forces troops operating in northern Iraq and six Canadian jets are taking part in US-led bombing missions against Islamic State in Iraq.
