Favoured to be an eagle By Pastor Amos Dada PhD; P. Eng

“You yourselves have seen what I did to Egypt, and how I carried you on eagles’ wings and brought you to myself.”  Ex 19:4

“For he raised us from the dead along with Christ and seated us with him in the heavenly realms because we are united with Christ Jesus.” Eph 2:6

The Holy Spirit wants to show you from the scripture that you are favoured like an eagle. He wants to show you that it is not the Israelites in Egypt alone that God carried. He also carried you.

A fable is told about an eagle who thought it was a chicken. When the eagle was very young, she fell from the safety of her nest. A chicken farmer found the eagle, brought her to the farm and raised her in a chicken coop. The eagle grew up believing she was a chicken.

A naturalist came to the chicken farm to see if what he had heard about an eagle acting like a chicken was true. The farmer explained to the naturalist that the bird was no longer an eagle. She was now a chicken because she had been trained to be a chicken and she believed that she was a chicken.

The naturalist knew that the bird was born an eagle and had the heart of an eagle, and nothing could change that. The man lifted the eagle onto the fence surrounding the chicken coop and told her to fly. The eagle glanced down at her home among the chickens in the chicken coop where she was comfortable. She jumped off the fence and continued doing what chickens do.

The naturalist returned the next day and tried again to convince the farmer and the eagle that the eagle was born for something greater. He took the eagle to the rooftop of the farmhouse and told her to fly. The large bird looked at the man, then again down into the chicken coop. She jumped from the man’s arm onto the roof of the farmhouse.

The naturalist asked the farmer to let him try one more time. He would return the next day and prove that the bird was an eagle. The farmer said, “It is a chicken.” The naturalist returned the next morning to the chicken farm and took the eagle and the farmer to the foot of a high mountain. The man held the eagle on his arm and pointed high into the sky. He said, “Eagle, you are an eagle! You belong to the sky and not to the earth. Stretch your wings and fly.”
This time the eagle stared upward into the bright sun, straightened her body and stretched her wings. Her wings moved, slowly at first, then surely and powerfully. With the mighty screech of an eagle, it flew.

The eagle by nature flies high, has vision and chooses what she eats. However, the chicken is a symbol of that which is limited. It is fearful. It does not fly and it eats other chickens eat.

In the course of our lives, we may meet people who want us to think like a chicken, and many of us still think we are chickens. Throw grains at our feet and we are content. Even so, we are still eagles. Nothing can change our essence, our identity.

 Who is the Farmer?
In that story the farmer  is Satan, he knew it was an eagle but wanted to turn it to a chicken
He raised it under special conditions so that it would be a chicken and never an eagle. Satan wants to limit you mentally, financially more importantly give you false identity.

Who is the naturalist?
Jesus is the naturalist. He knows who you are and will always encourage you to be your best. Jesus wants you to know your true identity and to be a better person.
In the scripture Eph 2:6. Jesus  the naturalist takes us to high places and encourages us to expand our wings, but we struggle against it.

How do you know you are an eagle? - God has deposited great qualities, potentials for success in you

Here’s seven ways we are favoured like an eagle from
 Ephesians chapter 2.
He favoured us. Grace  is unmerited favour.

1. Favoured to be lifted  to heavenly places: Develop your mentality. You are higher and more superior than the chicken, the sinners. The naturalist wants the eagle to know he is meant to be in the sky, elevated. “But God, who is rich in mercy, for his great love wherewith he loved us, 5 Even when we were dead in sins, hath quickened us together with Christ, (by grace ye are saved;) 6 And hath raised us up together, and made us sit together in heavenly places in Christ Jesus” Eph 2: 4-6

2. Favoured to be Reconciled To God- Jesus reconciled us through the cross - You are reconciled, no more a sinner. You are no more a slave to God. You are no more fighting God. The naturalist wanted the eagle to be reconciled to the Eagle family. “ And  reconcile us both to God in one body through the cross, thereby killing the hostility. Eph 2:16 Live like the saint that you are. Live like God’s friend, that is who you are, favoured to be among God’s people.Jn 15: 14-16

3. Favoured to have peace. He caused people to preach peace to us. He gave us Peace ; The naturalist came to the chicken coop to tell the eagle to get out and have peace with itself. God does not want us to remain frustrated, eating diners food, struggling. Jesus preached to us and gave us peace  “And he came and preached peace to you who were far off and peace to those who were near” Eph 2:17.  “Gave you peace.” Jn14:27. Actualize  the peace he has given you.

4. Favoured to have access to God. The naturalist showed the eagle great potentials within that can give him access to God’s provisions. Strong beak and talons. Uncommon wings to soar to the high heaven.”For through him we both have access in one Spirit to the Father” Eph 2:17. You have access to the father. - You can cry abba father. 2 Tim 1:7

5. Favoured to be heavenly citizens. You are an ambassador on earth . The naturalist showed the eagles “you are a royal bird, the king of birds.”You are a member of God’s household. You are part of the family of God- An eagle is an eagle anywhere. Even in the chicken coop. Even in that office, in that school, in this church, in that church, as long as you are born again. You are part of Jesus people. Live like one. “So then you are no longer strangers and aliens, but you are fellow citizens with the saints and members of the household of God” Eph 2:19.

6. Favoured to have solid foundation.  The naturalist trained the eagle to spread his wings, that it has great in-built characteristics that could be developed  to his advantage. The apostles and prophets teach us as Christians the fundamentals  of our faith to give us solid foundation. The eagle has some built in system that makes him stand out. His talons can grip slippery fish. His beak can help in carry big animals. It may be 3 kg but can carry 4 kg animal assisted by the wind. The Holy Spirit assists you to carry out difficult tasks. Other religions don’t have the Holy Spirit component. We have a Trinity God for a reason. Eph 2:20 “built on the foundation of the apostles and prophets, Christ Jesus himself being the cornerstone, “

7. Favoured to be prepared for the heavenly realm. The eagle is wired to soar majestically in the air. You are favoured to live in heaven after leaving this world. You go to heaven at the end of your race on earth
“ In him you also are being built together into a dwelling place for God by the Spirit.
Conclusion: Satan the farmer knows who you are and what you can be but wants to keep you permanently destroyed and wallow beyond your level. Jesus the naturalist is looking for you to help you develop and be a better person- who are you listening to ?

Shalom!
