My Month of Walking in Dominion By Pastor Amos Dada PhD, P. Eng

With great delight, I welcome you to the month of May - "Our Month of Walking in Dominion." To walk in dominion is to operate in the dominion mandate and covenant that God made with New Testament believers. I thank God that after creating Adam, He blessed him and gave him dominion before clothing him with flesh. "And God blessed them, and God said unto them, Be fruitful, and multiply, and replenish the earth, and subdue it and have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over every living thing that moveth upon the earth." (Genesis 1:28) My encouragement to the church in this fifth month (five speaks of grace) is to take time and use the opportunity of grace and the power of the Holy Ghost to understand what it means to walk in individual and corporate dominion. The Lord, in His grace, has "opened" the eyes of humanity to walk in dominion in many spheres of life, such as technology, aerodynamics, agriculture, science, medicine, and social media. Many more technological feats are expected to be developed in the years to come. However, the church that God has empowered to walk in dominion, in bringing humanity to understand that this world will not last forever and therefore encourage people to aggressively pursue relationships with Jesus, the author and finisher of our faith, is foot-dragging, slowing down, and becoming more nonchalant in performing the Go Ye Commission. It's like the way Adam and Eve cheaply handed over their dominion to Satan in the garden of Eden. Christians today want to hand over the Church Jesus purchased with His blood back to Satan again. God forbid! The church must not be ashamed, fearful, or intimidated by worldliness, but should be bold to declare God's plan of salvation for humanity and, therefore, have dominion on earth. Jesus, through the cross, has given us dominion over death, diseases, evil, and hell. We must walk in that dominion. I pray that this month, God will grant you the capacity to walk in dominion physically, academically, spiritually, financially, and in all aspects of your life, in Jesus' name. What is the meaning of walking in dominion? Walking in dominion goes beyond lip service. It means taking your stand as a child of God and realizing what you can do in Christ. You are no longer operating based on your own limitations, but you have come to the realization that you truly have all that God promised you. What is the spiritual meaning of dominion? When you are in charge of something or rule it, you have dominion over it. The most famous use of the word occurs in the Christian Bible when God grants people dominion over other animals. If you know the word domination, then you won't be surprised that dominion also has to do with a type of ruling over others. What is the importance of dominion? The term dominion means to rule over nature. This is the idea that humans are in charge of the world on behalf of God. Some Christians who have a literal interpretation of the Bible believe that this gives humans the right to use the world's natural resources for their benefit. How do we have dominion over sin? There are many areas in which we can have dominion. We can have spiritual, financial, and physical (sound bodily and mental health) dominion. Spiritual dominion is the key one. That is, we have dominion over sin. If we can have dominion over sin, we have access to God to have dominion in all areas. "For sin shall not have dominion over you: for ye are not under the law, but under grace." (Romans 6:14) The issue is how we can ensure sin does not have dominion over us. Colossians chapter three gives us a clue to this. Paul says "put off", "mortify" and "put on". Mortify therefore your members which are upon the earth; fornication, uncleanness, inordinate affection, evil concupiscence, and covetousness, which is idolatry: But now ye also put off all these; anger, wrath, malice, blasphemy, filthy communication out of your mouth. Lie not one to another, seeing that ye have put off the old man with his deeds; (Colossians 3:5, 8-9). And have put on the new man, which is renewed in knowledge after the image of him that created him: Where there is neither Greek nor Jew, circumcision nor uncircumcision, Barbarian, Scythian, bond nor free: but Christ is all, and in all. Put on therefore, as the elect of God, holy and beloved, bowels of mercies, kindness, humbleness of mind, meekness, longsuffering; Forbearing one another, and forgiving one another, if any man have a quarrel against any: even as Christ forgave you, so also do ye. And above all these things put on charity, which is the bond of perfectness. And let the peace of God rule in your hearts, to the which also ye are called in one body; and be ye thankful. (Colossians 3:10-15). How do we exercise dominion in fulfilling ministry? We are to make disciples of all nations. This is the greatest way in which we can exercise dominion over the earth in that we are using the authority given to us by Christ for the express purpose of seeing the lost become found! How to walk in dominion in other areas of life?

Identify the area of your life in which you are currently dominated, and where you want to have dominion. Recognize that God has given you the mandate to have dominion (Gen 1:28). If poverty has been dominating you and you want to break free, then work hard and smart. Don't be lazy. Rich people are not born with two heads, they simply do what it takes to succeed. There is a song I used to sing as a boy that goes "Mo ma ni owo bi mi o lowo lomode, ma ni ni agba, ailowo lomode ki ise ole aye ni mo ba wo." This means "I will be rich. If I don't have money as a young man, I will have it when I am old. Lack of money as a young boy does not mean I am lazy. I will be rich." It may take longer than usual, but you can achieve financial dominion. If you have health challenges, work hard on overcoming them. If you struggle with what I call "social lifestyle" challenges, such as being a drunkard or being addicted to alcohol, cocaine, weed, cigarettes, or other vices, recognize that these habits were not born with you. You are what you do constantly. Turn the tide around. Put off and put on. Do it by the power of the Holy Ghost. If you don't have the Holy Spirit, ask God for it. You don't need to buy it, simply ask (John 7:37-39). Pray for ungodly lifestyles to be removed from your life. Here are some Scriptures that can help you walk in dominion

Genesis 27:40 (KJV): "And by thy sword shalt thou live, and shalt serve thy brother; and it shall come to pass when thou shalt have the dominion, that thou shalt break his yoke from off thy neck." Esau gained dominion. Judges 5:13 (KJV): "Then he made him that remaineth have dominion over the nobles among the people: the LORD made me have dominion over the mighty." This was Deborah's testimony, and it could be yours. Psalm 72:8: "He shall have dominion also from sea to sea, and from the river to the ends of the earth." This is where Canada's name comes from - The Dominion of Canada. Tap into it as a Canadian. Luke 10:19 (ESV): "Behold, I have given you authority to tread on serpents and scorpions, and over all the power of the enemy, and nothing shall hurt you." If God says he has given you authority, take it and use it! Ephesians 1:17-21: "That the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of glory, may give to you the spirit of wisdom and revelation in the knowledge of Him, the eyes of your understanding being enlightened; that you may know what is the hope of His calling, what are the riches of the glory of His inheritance in the saints, and what is the exceeding greatness of His power toward us who believe, according to the working of His mighty power which He worked in Christ when He raised Him from the dead and seated Him at His right hand in the heavenly places, far above all principality and power and might and dominion, and every name that is named, not only in this age but also in that which is to come." I am seated with Christ in high places. What about you? In conclusion, the final words of Jesus Christ on the cross were "It is finished." This means that everything required to reclaim the spiritual mandate that Satan took from humanity has been accomplished. Therefore, if you lack dominion on Earth, don't blame God! It's possible to walk in dominion in any area of your life, and Satan is not in charge - God is! Let's take action and claim the victory that Christ has already won for us!
