A mild drama played out on Sunday at the Mountain of Fire and Miracles Ministries, MFM, South-South Region 11, Port Harcourt, Rivers State, as aggrieved worshipers disrupted the service over alleged mismanagement of church funds and unjustified sack of the pastor.
The protesting worshipers caused panic in the church, and as a result, the Sunday service was brought to an abrupt end. The protesters, who carried placards with different inscriptions, barricaded the entrance to the church premises with cars, demanding the immediate reinstatement of the sacked Regional Overseer of the church, Mr. Lanre Adekunle.
A source who narrated the development in the church to journalists, said that there had been several cases of mismanagement of funds in the church.
The source noted that the church had been unable to address the situation, adding that a few people in the church were diverting church funds to their personal use, stressing that the cartel had always frustrated any genuine man of God posted to the church who would not allow the church funds to be embezzled.
One of the leaders of the protesters, an elder in the church, who identified himself as Mr. Chukwu Okorafor, said the cartel which was always interested in the church funds, stage-managed the sack of the pastor who was posted to the church two months ago because he was trying to stop the cartel from diverting church funds.
According to Okorafor, their anger was about the conspiracy leading to the sack of Pastor Adekunle, whom he alleged was witch-hunted by the cartel. He said that the only action that could calm the worshipers was the immediate reinstatement of the sacked pastor.
Okoroafor said: “Our major concern is that the same group that has always frustrated the church by embezzling the funds of the church, wrote a petition demanding the sack of a pastor that came to save the church from the wickedness of a few persons.
“We will continue this protest until the General Overseer hears us and brings back our pastor, who is doing the true work of God in our region, because they have converted what belongs to the church to their personal use,” the elder added
