The Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Jigawa State Chapter, has distributed about N2 million as Sallah support to veteran journalists and families of deceased media practitioners in the state.

Chairman of the council, Comrade Ismail Ibrahim Dutse, said the initiative was designed to ease the economic challenges facing the beneficiaries during the festive period.

He explained that the gesture was also aimed at appreciating the immense contributions of veteran journalists and late members who played significant roles in the growth and development of the union over the years.

According to him, the financial support was provided by the Jigawa State Government under the leadership of Governor Umar Namadi to assist the recipients.

Comrade Ismail commended the state government for approving the union’s request, noting that the beneficiaries had made remarkable sacrifices in protecting the image and integrity of the journalism profession.

In his goodwill message, the Commissioner for Information, Youth, Sports and Culture, Sagir Musa Ahmed, reaffirmed the government’s commitment to sustaining cordial relations with the media and supporting the NUJ.

Represented by the Senior Special Assistant on Media Affairs, Hajiya Zainab Rabo Ringim, the commissioner praised the achievements recorded by the current NUJ leadership within a short period.

He also described journalists in Jigawa as professionals dedicated to accurate and responsible information dissemination, adding that the state government was proud of their contributions.

Sagir further disclosed that the government had constituted a Media Campaign Team comprising veteran journalists, which would soon be inaugurated.

Speaking on behalf of the beneficiaries, veteran journalist, Salmanu Adamu Rishi expressed appreciation to the NUJ leadership for recognising and remembering the sacrifices of senior journalists who contributed to the growth of the profession in the state.
