The Department of State Services, DSS, on Friday allowed Nnamdi Kanu, leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB, access to his family and legal team.
DSS also granted a former Abia State lawmakers, Obinna Ichita, access to Kanu in its custody.
Disclosing this via X, Kanu’s Lead Counsel, Aloy Ejimakor, wrote: “UPDATE: The legal team, Prince Emma Kanu, Hon. Obinna Ichita & another have concluded today’s visitation with Onyendu MAZI NNAMDI KANU.
“MNK remains as stoic as ever & it was resolved that the aborted visitation on Wednesday should be put behind us but let it not happen again.”
On Wednesday, DAILY POST reported that the secret police had denied Kanu access to his legal team, Ichita, and his family.
Ejimakor had described the security agency’s action as a violation of the Nigerian Constitution and a court order.
Kanu has been locked up by the DSS since he was rearrested and subjected to extraordinary rendition from Kenya to Nigeria.
Since his return in 2021, courts had discharged and acquitted Kanu of all terrorism and treasonable felony charges but the Nigerian government has refused to grant him freedom.
Meanwhile, Justice Binta Nyako of an Abuja Federal High Court had adjourned Kanu’s trial indefinitely.
