Nigeria To Print Banknotes For Ghana, Côte d’Ivorie And Others From 2016

Nigeria is set to undertake the printing of currency and other Security Documents (SD) for Ghana, Côte d’Ivoire and other West African nations, beginning from 2016.

The Managing Director of the Nigerian Security Printing & Minting (NSPM), Joseph Ugbo, made the disclosure on Wednesday, March 4, while presenting the 2014 budget performance and 2015 budget proposal before the House of Representatives Committee on Banking and Currency chaired by Rep. Jones Onyereri.

According to him, the NSPM has flagged of the installation of newly procured state-of-the-art machines for security documents that would enable it produce banknotes and security documents required by the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN).

Ugbo stated that the company in the 2014 Appropriation Act had budgeted the sum of N25 million to secure the ISO 9000 certification, which was not implemented.

Ugbo however added that as part of effort to unbundle the SD unit in 2015, the company has set up the Technical and Marketing development committees that will ensure the implementation of the strategic policy in the next weeks
