How ex-Governor Shema mismanaged N14.3bn SURE-P funds – Kastina Comission

The Special Adviser on Budget in Katsina, Alhaji Abdullahi Imam, on Tuesday tendered 26 exhibits at the Commission of Inquiry.

The exhibit revealed how N14.3 billion Subsidy Reinvestment Programme (SURE-P ) fund was allegedly misappropriated in the state.

Imam alleged that N5.7 billion out of the amount was withdrawn in cash, while N8.3 billion was withdrawn through the accounts of Ministries of Finance and Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs.

 

He said that the government relied on the statement of accounts and the cheques that were used in withdrawing the money.

Imam also said that there were no concrete evidences to show how the funds were utilised during the period.
He said those involved were former governor Ibrahim Shema; the former Accountant-General, Abdullahi Remawa, and former Permanent Secretary, Ministry for Local Government Affairs, Lawal Safana.

He said former Commissioner for Finance, Lawal Jari; former Permanent Secretary, Government House, Idris Tune, ALGON Chairman, Ibrahim Dankaba and former chairmen of the 34 local governments.

The Chairman of the commission Justice Muhammad Surajo, received the documents an marked them as exhibits.

 

Surajo adjourned the sitting to Aug. 17, for continuation.

The state government set up the commission to investigate how the funds were used.(NAN)
