As his state gradually begins to lose its glory, this governor-elect plans to sell refuse

Cross River governor-elect, Professor Ben Ayade, knows a few things about waste and its management, considering his position as current chairman of the senate committee on environment.

He said this week that since he won the governorship elections in the state, he has been speaking with a company which may have to buy the waste from the state as most civilised cities around the world do not waste wastes.

Any idea that would remove the rubbish from Cross River will definitely be welcome in the state which prides itself as one of the neatest in the country but has been overtaken by refuse in the past two months as the state agency responsible for cleaning and waste management have been on strike.

Despite assurances from the general manager of the agency, Ntufam Elegance Edim, that the refuse will be cleared within the week, nothing has changed about the sight of mounting rubbish all around the state capital is becoming a real source f concern for the state due to the health of residents and the reputation of the state.

Governor-elect Ayade told reporters who asked him about his plan to solve the environmental challenge that in other countries, “Instead of wasting their wastes they turn them into wealth, as a result there are many firms which are now into creating employment and wealth by buying the wastes from cities and countries.”

The governor-elect said that he may have to firm agreement with such firms to regularly buy refuse from the state as a way of making money for the state.
