DEAL OR NO DEAL: - BUHARI GOES TOUGH ON OIL MARKETERS

President Buhari's administration has begun a crackdown on oil marketers who are allegedly involved in the stealing of huge sums of oil subsidies and revenues. According to a report by SaharaReporters, the government has pressured the indicted companies and their owners to agree to refund the stolen funds traced to them by importing more fuel into the country immediately.

Some of the oil marketers and their companies have already accepted the fuel-for-funds deals. A Presidency source told SaharaReporters that a number of these companies have agreed to import massive levels of fuel in lieu of the funds they received in shady transactions during the Jonathan administration. But an exception to this is one Mr. Omokore the owner of Atlantic Energy Oil Company which was involved in the controversial concession of oil wells. Sources said he volunteered to refund $.5 billion whereas he should have deposited $4.5 billion into the federation account.

It was also gathered that the former minister for petroleum resources, Mrs. Alison-Madueke who had been under pressure by the Buhari's administration had reportedly named all the person involved in the massive oil fraud. The list is said to include some past and current officials of the NNPC. Parts of those implicated include the current General Managing Director (GMD), Haruna Momoh, a former GMD, Austen Oniwon, Reginald Stanley and Sam Okeke, a former Group General Manager, New Business Division of the NNPC.
