Saraki demands refund of N30bn duty waiver

Senate President, Dr Bukola Saraki on Wednesday in Abuja asked the Central Bank of Nigeria, CBN, and the Nigeria Customs Service to collaborate towards ensuring retrieval of the sum of N30 Billion rice duty, which was due to the government but was waived by the last administration.

Addressing the management team of CBN, who were on a courtesy visit to his office to chat a way out of the nation’s financial chaos, Saraki said days of impunity were over, noting that government was seriously experiencing difficult times despite the need for it to address daunting challenges.

He urged the Central Bank to collaborate with Federal Ministry of Agriculture for massive production of rice, while the legislature would ensure making policies favourable to farmers.

He also called on all stakeholders to work towards diversifying the economy, noting that the Nation’s dependence on oil alone was no longer visible

Saraki said the nation must do all it could to put confidence in foreign and local investors as well as development partners.
