Born on July 23, 1892, Haile [Tafari Makonnen] Selassie came to power as regent of Abyssinia, later called Ethiopia, in 1916. He was crowned Emperor of Ethiopia in 1930.

The son of Ras Makonnen, a cousin and close friend of Emperor Menelek II, Selassie was baptized Lij Tafari, and he is known throughout the world as a direct descendant of King Solomon and the Queen of Sheba, two ancient tenth-century rulers, B.C.E.

The Emperor (Ge’ez: ንጉሠ ነገሥት, nəgusä nägäst, “King of Kings”) of Ethiopia was the hereditary ruler of Ethiopia until the abolition of the monarchy in 1974.

The Emperor was the head of state and head of government with ultimate executive, judicial and legislative power in that country. A National Geographic Magazine article called imperial Ethiopia “nominally a constitutional monarchy; in fact a benevolent autocracy.”

The title of “King of Kings”, often rendered imprecisely in English as “Emperor”, dates back to ancient Mesopotamia, but was used in Axum by King Sembrouthes (c. 250 AD). However, Yuri Kobishchanov dates this usage to the period following the Persian victory over the Romans in 296-297. Its use, from at least the reign of Yekuno Amlak onward, meant that both subordinate officials and tributary rulers, notably the gubernatorial vassals of Gojjam (who ranked 12th in the states non-dynastic protocol as per 1690), Welega, the seaward provinces and later Shewa, received the honorific title of nəgus, a word for “king.”

The consort of the Emperor was referred to as the ətege, and the ruling Empress Zauditu used that title in addition to the feminized form nəgəstä nägäst (‘queen of kings’).

The Emperors of Ethiopia derived their right to rule based on two dynastic claims: their descent from the kings of Axum, and their descent from Menelik I, the son of Solomon and Makeda, Queen of Sheba.

The claim to their relationship to the Kings of Axum derives from Yakuno Amlak’s claim that he was the descendant of Dil Na’od, through his father, although he defeated and killed the last Zagwe king in battle. His claim to the throne was also helped by his marriage to that king’s daughter, even though Ethiopians commonly do not acknowledge claims from the distaff side.
The claim of descent from Menelik I is based on the assertion that the kings of Axum were also the descendants of Menelik I; its definitive and best-known formulation is set forth in the Kebra Nagast. While the surviving records of these kings fail to shed light on their origins, this genealogical claim is first documented in the 10th century by an Arab historian.Interpretations of this claim vary widely. Some (including many inside Ethiopia) accept it as evident fact. At the other extreme, others (mostly interested non-Ethiopians) understand this as an expression of propaganda, attempting to connect the legitimacy of the state to the Ethiopian Orthodox Church. Some scholars take an approach in the middle, attempting to either find a connection between Axum and the South Arabian kingdom of Saba, or between Axum and the pre-exilic Kingdom of Judah.

The last Solomonic monarch to rule Ethiopia was Amha Selassie, who was offered the throne by the Derg after his father Haile Selassie’s deposition September 12, 1974. When Amha Selassie, understandably mistrustful of the Derg, refused to return to Ethiopia to rule, the Derg announced that the monarchy had come to an end in March, 1975. In 1993 a group called the “Crown Council of Ethiopia”, which includes several descendants of Haile Selassie, claimed that the nəgusä nägäst was still in existence, and was the legal head of Ethiopia. The Ethiopian constitution of 1995 confirmed the abolition of the Emperorship.

Selassie spent his youth at the imperial court of Addis Ababa, Ethiopia surrounded by constant political plots, so he learned much about the wielding of power. Emperor Menelek rewarded the youth’s intellectual and personal capabilities by appointing him, at the age of 14, to the governorship of Gara Muleta in the province of Harar. When he was twenty, the emperor appointed him dejazmatch (commander) of the extensive province of Sidamo.

In 1931, the newly appointed Emperor Selassie began to develop a written constitution to symbolize his interest in modernization and intention to increase the power of the government, which had been weakening since the death of Menelek. Selassie’s efforts were cut short when Benito Mussolini’s Italy invaded the country in 1935. The Italian military used superior weaponry, airplanes, and poison gas to crush the ill-fated resistance led by Emperor Selassie.

After the invasion, a fascist regime occupied the country and marked the first loss of national independence in recorded Ethiopian history.

In 1936 Haile Selassie went into exile, and a request for help from the League of Nations went unanswered.

In early 1941 British forces aided by the Ethiopian resistance, freed the country from Italian control, which enabled Selassie to triumphantly re-enter his nation in May of that year. The Italian colonial administration had, by then, destroyed a great deal of his government’s independence. Throughout the next decade he rebuilt the administration, improved the army, passed legislation to regulate the government, church, and financial systems, and further extended his control of the provinces by crushing uprisings in Gojjam and Tigre.

In general, Emperor Selassie had gradually grown more cautious, allowing few new leaders into his government.

In the 1950s Haile Selassie worked to absorb into Ethiopia the important Red Sea province of Eritrea (this was accomplished in 1962). Later he founded the University College of Addis Ababa, and welcomed home many Ethiopian college graduates from abroad. Selassie’s continued work to hold political balance between several major politicians as well as his efforts to shut out new politicians who still found few places in government eventually led opposing elements to attempt a government coup in December 1960. The coup failed, but it gave a short and violent message to the unchanging Ethiopian politics and hinted of future possibilities.

Is it true that Marcus Garvey at one time, criticized Selassie harshly for selling out to the Italians?

Marcus Garvey prophesied the coming of Haile Selassie I, because in his philosophy he stated that black people must look to the East through the spectacles of Ethiopia for their God and King. Ethiopia/Abyssinia, which Italy had unsuccessfully tried to conquer in the 1890s, was in 1934 one of the few independent states in a European-dominated Africa.
A border incident between Ethiopia and Italian Somaliland that December gave Benito Mussolini an excuse to intervene, so rejecting all arbitration offers, the Italians invaded Ethiopia on October 3, 1935. Under Generals Rodolfo Graziani and Pietro Badoglio, the invading forces steadily pushed back the ill-armed and poorly trained Ethiopian army, winning a major victory near Lake Ascianghi (Ashangi) on April 9, 1936, and taking the capital, Addis Ababa, on May 5.

The nation’s leader, Emperor Haile Selassie, went into exile. In Rome, Mussolini proclaimed Italy’s king Victor Emmanuel III emperor of Ethiopia and appointed Badoglio to rule as viceroy.
In response to Ethiopian appeals, the League of Nations condemned the Italian invasion in 1935 and voted to impose economic sanctions on the aggressor, but the sanctions remained ineffective because of general lack of support. Although Mussolini’s aggression was viewed with disfavour by the British, who had a stake in East Africa, the other major powers had no real interest in opposing him. The war, by giving substance to Italian imperialist claims, contributed to international tensions between the fascist states and the Western democracies.
It also served as a rallying point, especially after World War II, for developing African nationalist movements.

In the 1960s, Emperor Selassie was clearly recognized as a major force in the pan-African movement (a movement dedicated to a united Africa).

Demonstrating his remarkable capacity for adapting to changing circumstances, it was a personal triumph for him when, in 1963, the newly founded Organization of African Unity (OAU) established its headquarters in Addis Ababa. Marcus Garvey could make this connection back to Ethiopia or as close as he could get at the time, to Liberia, because he, like Selassie, knew the absolute truth. So did the Arabic/Muslim leader of the Republic of Egypt, President Abdel Gamal Nasser, who said to the unstabling Europeans who attempted to douse his authority in Egypt: “We do not acknowledge you. You left here Black and have come back white. We do not even know who you are!”

Unlike other African leaders, Selassie had not had to struggle once in office to prove his legitimate authority to his people. His control of government for more than forty years had given him enough time to demonstrate his strength.

By 1970 the Emperor had slowly withdrawn from many day-to-day workings of the government and had become increasingly involved with foreign affairs.

He probably made more state visits than any other head of state, enjoying such trips for their own sake even when they had little practical use. To him, foreign relations brought admiration from around the world.

At home, Haile Selassie showed more caution than ever in his approach to modernization. He was warm to Western advancements, but he stayed in accord with peer agreements. By his fortieth year in power, he appeared to be more concerned with adjusting to change than with enacting change himself.

A famine in Wello province in 1973 seriously hurt the reputation of Selassie’s leadership. It was because of this that Selassie was forced to abdicate on September 13, 1974. The eighty-year-old Emperor Selassie spent his final year of life under house arrest and his death was announced on August 27, 1975.

The man who led Ethiopia for sixty years—through some of the nation’s darkest times—did not even have a funeral service and the exact location of his grave has never been revealed.

Many Americans were fascinated by Emperor Haile Selassie. In 1954 the New York Times wrote that he was “a man of courage, intelligence and great humanity” (89), and it printed the full text of his speech to a joint session of the U.S. Congress. In a period of less than ten years, Haile Selassie was twice named Time magazine’s man of the year. American presidents who knew Haile Selassie, too, were unreserved in their praise for the African monarch. During his first state visit to the U.S. in 1954 Dwight Eisenhower described the him as “a defender of freedom and a supporter of progress” (53), and he was appreciative of the emperor’s decision to send Ethiopian troops to fight alongside Americans in Korea. Harry Truman by and large ignored him, perhaps because the relationship between the two countries was stable and Truman was preoccupied with the emerging challenge from the Soviet Union. John F. Kennedy, however, was intrigued by Haile Selassie, and one measure of Haile Selassie’s weight in the eyes of America’s political class was that he was the only African leader to be invited to attend Kennedy’s funeral. In 1963 President Lyndon Johnson told the emperor that he looked to him for advice and counsel, and President [End Page 172] Nixon honored him by inviting him to the U.S. as the first foreign leader to visit the White House after he was elected president. As for Haile Selassie’s own attitudes toward America’s presidents, it appears that he was deferential toward Eisenhower, indifferent toward Truman (whom he met possibly only once at the funeral ceremony for John F. Kennedy in November 1963), affectionate toward Kennedy, puzzled by Johnson, and disillusioned with Nixon.

There are many Semitic African-Americans of Egyptian/Hamitic descent with a long line of Pharoahs and Queens in their lineage; there are also many with Semitic Arabic and Muslim ancestry, the descendants of Jacob’s brother, Esau; and from whom come the Moorish ancestry. But that is not the only story of Africans in America, or of the Black Diasporas.

There is a remnant of African-Americans left, along with Chosen others who live in other nations out of ancient Mesopotamia and Persia, and who are the descendants of Africanized slaves.

These are the blood-bought original children of Israel (aka “Jacob”, Esau’s younger twin brother). They are the ones blown off “to the four winds” of Earth, who would be entrapped and enslaved and come to lose their lands and their identities by ‘foreigners’ from other nations.

These African-oriented descendants of the Lion of the Tribe of Judah are the original bloodline Judeans and Aramaic-speaking peoples; they are not of the European Ashkenazi Jewry nor of a modernized religion called “Judaism,” which is nothing more or less than a European religious adaptation of Black ancestral tribal heritage.

You will hear many who will try to put all African-Americans in a GLOBAL 1-Piece BOX by making statements such as “Our African ancestors were Muslim or Islamic people,” and they teach Islam as a Black world religion; or they say “Our African ancestors were Egyptians…” and they teach Egyptology; however…

The truth is that the trans-Atlantic slave trade consisted of a lot of different Black peoples who were either sold or kidnapped OUT OF AFRICA, many of them not just from Ethiopia or Egypt or ancient Canaan, but also out of the Northern and Southern kingdoms of Judah and Israel.

The Bible AND traditional history books talk about the conquests of Assyria and how the people of these lands were wiped out and removed from their ancient tribal lands and homes and exiled. It also discusses how Judah would be purged – which it is to this day. But it also speaks of the redemption of a CHOSEN People – and how others (Gentiles, both black and white for our taste) who are “engrafted in the Vine” will be saved.

These Israelites (Hebrew people) were taken off to Ghana, and to Nigeria, and to places like Cameroon and Mali, et al, by desert Nomads: Moors, Arabs and other African slave traders, to places where other western-born Africans were also being kidnapped and sold or traded off by and to Europeans. These people did not originate in West Africa, they were taken there and enslaved, as were many of their similarly ill-fated brethren and ‘sisteren’ of other African nations in central Africa and the western coast.

It would serve us well to remember and interject here where the words “All niggers look alike to us” came from. It was said by a European slaver who was told by his people that he was not just kidnapping and selling into slavery “monkeys in the jungle swinging from trees,” but that he was also kidnapping Kings and Queens and Tribal Leaders of ancient African national and Far Eastern ancestry.

Upon the final exile and death of Haile Selassie and the refusal of his son, Amha, to ascend to the throne of Emperor of Ethiopia, many of Black America lost its last literal tribal link back to the Solomonic Dynasty of King Solomon and his father, King David. The title of Emperor was wiped out by further European conquests and along with it, our traceable roots back to the orthodox heritage of Ethiopian and Indian (far eastern) ancestry within Persia and Mesopotamia.

Though race should not have been a factor in any of these historical and genealogical doings and undoings — we are a direct creation of God and did not COME FROM anywhere; we were always here from the very beginning of time more than 200,000 years ago. Yet, it was, in fact, Black people who were denied and deprived of their right of access to their ancient ancestral heritage in Israel {and ancient Judah} by race-mongering Europeans who stole their identity and heritage and denied them their rights ‘enforce of skin color’ alone; NOT the other way around.

Their time of worldwide rule and usurping the authority and identity of the Truth of God-

THE LION OF THE TRIBE OF JUDAH

-is coming to a quick and decisive end.

Once Selassie was finally deposed, or “abdicated” the throne, depending on who you ask, Ethiopia then fell apart and was never put back together again outside of European conquest. The Euros set themselves up as emperors and queens and kings in places where they did not belong.

Here in America, Europeans have also stolen the identity of Native Americans and they pretend to be indigenous peoples when they are not. Natives here in America have never been, nor will they ever be, a white-skinned people. Their own history tells you that these people were not white, as they are now.

Back in the Mother Homeland, even Abdel Gamal Nasser of Egyptian rule told them they did not belong there.

They got rid of him for it and then proceeded to white-christianize Egypt into a fairytale and superstition-ridden false religion worshipping a false white deity that intended to set themselves out to the world as “gods” and “masters”.

There is but one Master, and they aren’t it. They never were. There are five MAJOR religions in today’s world, and NONE, not one, of them were started by any forms or editions of white peoples: They are Islam, Buddhism, Judaism, Hinduism, and Christianity.

Do NOT get it twisted, these religions and forms of religion came from tribes of people who practiced their faith in God in different ways. At the time, they were not called “religions,” but were various practices of tribal and familial heart faith. Think of it like the differences between what slavery and indentured servitude were at that time-the results of infighting and tribal wars-and what it was turned into in Europe (white supremacy).

Original “Jews” (an American/western word of European origins) did not know what a religion called ‘Judaism’ was.

These Hebrews (nee “Jews”) called themselves Christians at Antioch on their way from Jerusalem to the west (Rome and Greece) to spread the gospel of Christ to the heathen peoples. Yet, they never practiced a religion called “Christianity.”

It was usurped by the Church of Rome, through the Apostle Paul -also a Judean man – which explains Catholicism and the “Protestant” churches and their offspring religions in Europe, as they were also translated to the Americas.

The Church of Rome laid the foundation for nearly every single Protestant church in America, and for their later-known factions of the non-denominational and inter-denominational American religions and faiths. There is a reason Catholics do not refer to themselves as Christians, but the way they rooted out in American Christianity.

It is not the same Christianity that came from the original Hebrew (‘Black’) people. It was tainted and stained with heretical superstitions, Roman and Greek gods and laws, pagan practices, witchcraft, and even with European white supremacy on the way over. What we got here was not what came out of Judea or Jerusalem.

The Savior never endorsed or upheld a religion called ‘Christianity’, as He was not a Christian himself. He was a Judean man who attended many doctrinal and legal-driven old Mosaic order classes and services in the temples/synagogues and any other places in which He found Himself challenged and inspired.

UNTWIST.

That kind of Christianity was a Pauline theme in the New Testament, a lie taken from the mouth of Paul and spread by the papal conundrum in Europe. It was not a fact of the lives of the Jewish/Judaic/Hebrew tribes of ancient times.

God is no respecter of persons, nor is He the author of the confusion cast by too many religions and not enough faith.

Faith is faith. Period. It knows no religious order, just a staunch belief in the truth of the One True Messiah, the Son of God or ‘Allah’, as you will.

Just because the Euros/Americanos removed ancient world history of nearly a quarter of a million years to their own more recent existence in Greece and Rome (no more than 12,000 years old on the planet), does not mean that they discovered or originated anything. They codified and outlined and construed what was already done and put it in their own language.

They then RETAUGHT it to our ancestors, our AFRICAN ancestors, under the guise and guidance of white supremacy in the west…and in THEIR language instead of our own languages in Africa and the Far and so-called “Middle” East, i.e., true Northern Africa, which they knew nothing of then and still do not to this day.

Yes, we/they could use a ‘white history month’ in America. They do not even know who they are.
