As days were going by, anticipation grew stronger for the much publicised Igbo cultural celebration tagged “Anambra State Community Day” which was scheduled to take place in North Carolina, United States of America.
Culture is symbolic and when celebrated gives people a chance to experience the lifestyle of other people. This was one of the reasons residents and people of North Carolina were earnestly waiting to see what the Anambra State Association of North Carolina Inc. had in stock for the “Anambra State Community Day” planned to take place on Saturday, 8th of September, 2018.
On the deal day, Anambrarians didn’t under-perform. They came to the events as hosts in different colourful attires with symbolised paintings, ornaments and objects to traditionally depict and showcase the rich cultures and cultural heritage of Igbos.
Barrister Nwachukwu Okafor traditionally recognised as “Ogbuehi Agunaecheibe na Umunze”, who is also the President of Ohanaeze in Raleigh, North Carolina was in attendance at this glorious day of Anambra State Community Day Celebration in Raleigh, North Carolina.
Visitors, friends and guests at the event were treated to the traditional dance by Women of Anambra State Association of North Carolina Inc. The women who came out in uniforms took everyone by surprise as their dance steps were organised, in-tune and mesmerising. No one believed that these women could swiftly move their bodies in such skilful moves.
Everyone ate to their fills and people were impressed by the taste of Igbo delicacies that were served at the event. After the several displays of masquerade dances and other forms of traditional displays, people became eager to dance and enjoy themselves.
The disc-jockey took over and everyone enjoyed themselves. As at three ‘o clock the following day being Sunday, 9th of September, 2018, the event was it on. Many people were relaxed and didn’t feel any rush to return home because the organisers made sure they all felt comfortable, happy and lively to stay.
