15 Nigerian Celebrity Deaths That Shook The Industry In 2017

The Nigerian entertainment industry is not only characterized by a great number of achievements but also by a great number of losses.

The death of these Nigerian celebrities shook the entertainment industry to its core at the time each of their demise occurred. They are however remembered for the legacies they left behind.

1. Toyin Majekodunmi

Toyin also called Iya Kike, whose husband is also an actor was the first death incident that was recorded this year in the industry. Before she launched into her movie career, she worked with the Lagos State Ministry of Information for many years. . she died on 2nd of January 2017 at age 61.

2. Prince James Uche

Veteran actor, Prince James Uche was said to have died after a protracted battle with diabetes and kidney ailment. He had been ill for eight years kidney transplant and eye surgery high blood pressure, diabetes and kidney failure
He gave up the ghost two days after he was sujpposed to travel to India for surgery.

3. Pastor Ajidara

Actor Adesina Adesanya, popularly known as ‘Pastor Ajidara’ battled a kidney failure condition and passed away days after it was revealed that he was sick.
Adesanya acted in movies such as: “Agbeku abela” (2009) and “Ologbo Iya Ijebu” (2007).

4. Olumide Bakare

The thespian and a force to reckon with in the industry died after having prolonged battle with a respiratory disorder
Bakare, a veteran actor in the Nigerian film industry died April 22, 2017.

5. Moji Olaiya

Nollywood star actress, Moji Olaiya is the more recent actor that died on the ….. two months after she gave birth to her daughter in Canada. She suffered from cardiac arrest before she died.

6. Eric Arubayi

West Africa Idol star and top Nigerian gospel artiste, Late Eric Arubayi jnr. died on Saturday, February 11, 2017, at the Delta State University Teaching Hospital after battling an illness.

7. Royhillz Edozie

 

Royhills Edozie,the CEO of Lagos Fashion Awards and Most Beautiful Girl in Lagos was diagnosed with perforated ulcer and was recovering before he relapsed. He died on January 30th and was just 28 years old.

8. Nengi FineCountry

Nengi Finecountry is a journalist attached to African Independent Television, who died on Sunday, May 7.

9. Modupe Oyekunle

Fast rising Nollywood actress, Modupe Oyekunle, died in May after giving birth to her third child, a baby girl which survived.

10. Supo Dosunmu

Popular US show promoter, Supo Dosunmu and CEO of Unique promotions who took Dbanj and Don Jazzy on their first major tour US several years back died on Monday, January 16, 2017 in the United States.

11. Victor Eze Okwuchukwu

Victor Eze Okwuchukwu who played Alika in the popular TV series, “Fuji House of Commotion,” passed away on Sunday, June 25, 2017, after a long battle with stroke.

12. Adebayo Faleti

A renowned journalist, poet and actor, Adebayo Faleti, passed away on July 23, 2017, at the age of 86. He was a renowned journalist in his prime having taken up top management positions at the Broadcasting Corporation of Oyo State (BCOS) in the role of a General Manager and also as the Film Editor and Librarian at the National Television Authority (NTA), Ibadan, Oyo State.

He was laid to rest on Friday, September 8, 2017.

13. Obi Madubogwo

Popular for his role in “Conspiracy,” Obi Madubogwo announced in 2016 that he was in need of public support for his health.

He had just come out of coma after a toxic battle with a diabetic wound, and was in need of financial support for a surgery, tests and medications to avoid amputation of his leg.

14. Funke Abisogun-Alhassan

Yoruba Nollywood actress, Funke Abisogun-Alhassan, passed away in October. According to actor Tunde Ola Yusuf, who shared the news on Instagram, the actress passed away a few days after being delivered of a baby.

15. Main Bossman

Comic actor, Okwy Chukwujekwu, popularly known as Main Bossman, passed away in September. The “Men of Wisdom” actor passed away in Anambra State, following an asthma attack. Fellow actor, Odira Nwobu, confirmed his death.
