Nigerian award-winning singer Davido has issued a stern warning to black Americans against relocating to Africa.
In an interview on the Big Homies House podcast, the Afrobeats singer shared his thoughts on the growing interest among African Americans to relocate to Africa. Davido warned them against making such moves, as he made them know that it isn’t cool in Africa as the economy is in shambles. He pointed out how African citizens are being reamed, buying the homegrown oil for more than the people who get it imported.
Davido, however, made it known that he wasn’t badmouthing Africa; rather, his aim was to show off the little parts and leave the slums out of the frame. Davido stressed that entertainment is what’s giving Africa a smokescreen to make them look good.
“It’s not cool back home. The economy now is in shambles”.
His statement has divided netizens as while some concurred with him, others berated him for painting Africa in a bad light.

In April, Davido reviewed his growth as an African artist, and how it has influenced Nigeria globally. The singer stated that ten years ago, it wasn’t cool to identify as a Nigerian to foreigners, as he noted how a lot of Africans lie about their heritage, and claimed that they were from Jamaica. Now, times have changed, and people have started appreciating the African culture more, thanks to him.
In 2022, Davido revealed why he was fond of returning to Nigeria after gigs outside the country. The Grammy nominee admitted that he loves being in Nigeria as there was no place like home. He, however, urged the government to do better as this country is blessed.
