Whether it’s skull-shaped, as dark as our hearts, glittery, or shaped like a unicorn, we love a good bath bomb.
The fizz as it hits the water. The pure joy of colour seeping across the tub. The smell – oh, the smell.
Bath bombs are an important part of a self-care ritual, so it’s no wonder all us stressy messes are a little obsessed.
But as with all good things, there’s a risk involved with our bath bomb habit.Bath bombs, while an absolute delight, may be wreaking havoc upon our poor vaginas.
The horror, oh the horror.
Here’s how bath bombs are wrecking your vag – and how to be a little kinder to your vagin-er.
Bath bombs tend to be perfumed and dyed
We tend to lose our sh*t over bath bombs that are the most potent smelling and beautifully coloured. We choose bath bombs that’ll turn our water bright pink.
But to make bath bombs look and smell that exciting, manufacturers had to add a lot of perfume and dyes.
That’s an issue when it comes to looking after your vagina, because the vagina’s delicate pH balance really doesn’t respond well to anything perfumed.
As Dr Vanessa Mackay, spokesperson for the Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists, explained to metro.co.uk: ‘It’s a good idea to avoid perfumed soaps, gels and antiseptics as these can affect the healthy balance of bacteria and pH levels in the vagina and cause irritation.
