WE ARE ALL EQUAL - Mathew Iduoriyekemwen

A chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Mr. Mathew Iduoriyekemwen, on Sunday appealed to Forum of Nigerian Albinos (FONA) not to give in to stigmatisation from members of the society.

Iduoriyekemwen made the appeal when members of the group paid him a visit in Benin.

The Edo PDP chieftain, who was a former Edo representative on the board of the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) said, “Deficiency of melanin pigment is not self-imposed.”

He said they could only be intimidated when they allowed themselves to be weighed down with public perception about the colour of their skin.

The PDP chieftain said like every other Nigerian, the Albinos had the right to freedom of movement and association.

He urged them to go about their normal daily routine businesses like every other Nigerian.

Iduoriyekemwen commended them for refusing to be intimidated by excelling in their individual chosen fields of human endeavours and urged them to see themselves as normal human beings.

The group had visited the PDP chieftain to express gratitude for sponsoring a conference meant at sensitising the public on albinos in the society.

President of FONA, Mr. Sunday Iyemeake, commended the sponsor for associating with them in the face of discrimination against them on the basis of the colour of their skin.

He disclosed that despite the fact that some prominent individuals gave them pledges, it was Iduoriyekemwen who redeemed his and did even more than they had expected. (NAN)
