Nigeria remains one of the ten most dangerous countries in the world for a woman to give birth, the minister of health, Prof. Isaac Adewole has said.
Adewole stated this at the 50TH anniversary and 9th International Congress of the Society of Gynecology and Obstetrics of Nigeria's (SOGON), in Abuja.
He said that Nigeria accounts for an estimated 14 per cent of maternal death worldwide with 576 of every 100,000 live birth resulting in a maternal death, adding that the figure was higher than the average figure for sub-Saharan.
Adewole said that over 4,000 midwives and 1,000 community Health Extension Workers (CHEWs) have been successfully deployed in 1,000 primary health care facilities across the country.
