Nigerian scammer swindles $22,000 from woman in Sweden

A young man was arrested on a charge of obtaining money by false pretenses after allegedly swindling thousands of dollars from a woman in Sweden, by promising to move to her country and marry her, police in Nigeria said.

Cross River State police said that they have arrested 30-year-old Jude Amadi, after being accused of persuading the woman to send him $22,000 by promising to love her.

According to the investigation conducted by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, Amadi called himself popular names on the Internet, including Richard Smith, Mike Anderson, Richard Darwin, Jackson Miller, and Morgan Abela.

He persuaded the victim to give him $22,000 so he could buy plane tickets and fly to her country in order to marry her. He never arrived in Sweden.

The suspect pleaded not guilty to 12 counts of obtaining money by false pretenses. Amadi was booked into prison and denied bail.
