Student of the Week – AISHAT ODEKUNLE OMOTOYOSI.

Well for this week, we have an amazing student that defines beauty and brains yet very religious.

She hails from Ogun state.  Aisha is the second of four children. She’s current vice president of the Moot Society. When asked to introduce herself, she goes thus; ” I’m  Odekunle Aisha Omotoyosi, a muslimah, now a 400l law student. I love swimming and basically anything that makes me happy at that particular moment. I love reading and babysitting too. If it interests me. I hate snakes(would rather be left in a room with a lion or tiger but not a snake), I’ve got just a few close friends and I guess that’s just me simply introduced”.

To ‘potentialists’ hooting for this beauty, the odds seems to be in your favour….she is single. When asked about crushes in the faculty, she said her crush as left us (regardless, a name can’t be dropped)at the moment, she just admires people.

She’s fondly called ‘Aisha moot’ by some, some call her ‘Aysh’. Her younger brother calls her ‘Yoshi’.

She’s totally turned off by the word bae and emphasizes that no guy should use the ‘supposed pet name’ on her, she also hates it when a guy just walks up to her to flatter, she is disgusted by unnecessary phone calls, hates lies, undriven people, etc. She’s turned on by a tall good looking guy with features every girl dreams of :D (this lady has got quite a wish).

When asked about her most memorable and most embarrassing moment (s),  she says, ‘I have experienced several memorable moments, these are some of them I would be happy to share. First, we have the NMUN trip to Washington D.C. and NMUN Rome (of which I currently miss). Secondly, when I started dating the love of my life then in ss3. I had an heavy crush on him right from junior school.

My most embarrassing would be when a friend in Secondary school told my crush I liked him. In my presence. I wished the floor would swallow me. Now that I think of it, I just laugh. I now find those things childish. Lool’ (looks like someone really experienced the life of a teenager).

As regards her.favourIte food, ‘ I don’t exactly have a favourite food. I don’t buy the idea of favourites. Anyways, we could talk about Ikokore, Chicken and chips, Indomie, Ofada Rice, etc.’

Her favourite courses are Intellectual property and Human rights. Her best lecturers are Dr Oyewunmi and Professor Ibidapo Obe.

Now, down to a question we must ask. This is as regards her moot experience. She says, ‘ The mooting society has grown to become my second family ever since I was selected in year 1. While in year 1, I had no idea on what to do. All I did was watch and learn. However, the president then in person of Emmanuel Ohiri, made certain those of us in year 1 were involved actively. They gave us special lectures. I got my first assignment as a moot member in year 1. I was asked to come up with an argument in relation to the facts of a particular case given. I had no idea what to do, eventually I got help from the former president of the LSS i.e. Swaggertolz. After which I proceeded to present my argument in a standard moot form in which I told the judges very politely to shut up (I was asked to many questions at the time -___- ) I was appreciated for my efforts. In year 2, I was director of research for my level and I participated in the NMUN Washington trip, where we won an award. Thanks to those that trained us- Emmanuel, Tsemon, Noble and Damola. In year 3, I became Treasurer and financial Secretary. I participated in the client counselling training and also, attended NMUN Europe. Which was held in Italy, Rome. Where we represented three countries and won two awards. I must confess that, that has been the best one so far as I had so much fun (that I had never dreamed) and yet I worked round the clock 8:00am – 10:00pm. Just recently, I became the vice-president of the Moot Society and that means more work.

Asides the academic aspect, the society has helped me build relationships that would not be broken any time soon. Bonds have been created. Friends have become family, I have met dignitaries and respectable people in this law profession. It’s an experience that would last a lifetime.’

When asked to describe herself in as many adjectives as possible, she says ‘ I’m intelligent, nice, loving and caring, more of an introvert, sometimes shy and sometimes bossy. Contrary to what people think that I am always composed, I have my crazy days as well (we have seen a bit of that I must confess)’.

Her best buddies in the faculty, are Tolu, Ruqoyah, Laylo, Langa, Aisha Okesola, Mariam, Balinga (Modupe Balogun),etc.

We just had to ask why she chose to study law, she ‘I was always intrigued by the idea of a wig and gown wyl I was a kid. I always loved the law and resolved to study law. It was totally of my will’.

Aisha believes the starting of the faculty’s blog was a brilliant idea. It is informative, Expressive and Educative. It gives students an opportunity to air their views.

Last words? ‘ There is this particular quote that keeps me going it will remain my best till I come across another…. “We are not here merely to make a living. We are here in order to enrich the world, with a greater vision, a finer spirit of hope and achievements and we impoverish ourselves if we forget the errand” – Woodrow Wilson’
