A husband in Algeria has dragged his wife to court a day after their marriage.

The unnamed husband is demanding $20,000 damages as compensation for psychological shock he experienced after the discovery that his wife was not beautiful without make-up.

He told the court in the North African Arab nation that he was confounded when a day after they tied the nuptial tie, he discovered that his wife’s facial look was different from what he saw on the wedding day.

The wife has committed divorceable offence by hoodwinking him into marrying her with the fake appearance due to the make-up, therefore he could no longer continue with the marriage, he told the court.

According to 24/7, a newspaper in the Arab country, the following post-wedding morning he could not recognised his wife, as he mistook her for a “thief who came to steal (in) his apartment.”

“The groom told the judge that he could not recognize his wife after she washed the make-up off her face,” the newspaper quoted the husband in the affidavit he sworn to in court. “He said he was deceived by her as she used to fill up her face with make up before their marriage.”

“He said she looked very beautiful and attractive before marriage, but when he woke up in the morning and found that she had washed the make-up off her face, he was frightened as he thought she was a thief,” 24/7 said, adding: “The groom told court that he is demanding $20,000 damages for his psychological suffering.”

It would be recalled that a Saudi groom also rejected his bride on the wedding day, alleging that she was not the type of woman he wanted to spend the rest of his life with.

The groom, who was seeing his bride for the first time at the wedding hall in Medina, in the Western part of Saudi Arabia, immediately rejected her to the shock of officiating clerics, parents, family members and invited guests.

As the bride took off her veil and the groom took a first glance, it was learnt, “he instantly divorced her,” the Saudi newspaper, Okaz reported on the incident that occurred late last year.
“He told her that he was sorry because she was not the woman he wanted,” the newspaper said, adding: “The groom said he had not been able to see his bride’s face before marriage.”

“When he divorced her, the bride collapsed and the wedding turned into a night of tears,” Okaz added.
