A teacher who was arrested on a charge of rape, has been charged with murder after killing his victim following his release on bail, police in Zimbabwe said.

Mudzi police said that they have arrested 45-year-old Bernard Chiwengwa, a teacher at the Nyamhondoro Secondary School, after being accused of killing the 14-year-old girl he raped several months earlier.

 Chiwengwa was charged with one count of murder in addition to the previous charge of rape. According to the police investigation, Chiwengwa tried to abduct the girl one afternoon.

She screamed and managed to escape. She did not know at the time that Chiwengwa was the one who tried to abduct her. The girl reported the incident to Chiwengwa’s mother, who lives with her family members.

Later that night, the girl went home to her house and went to sleep in her bedroom. Chiwengwa then broke into the room, grabbed her and carried her away.

He raped the girl and dumped her on a quiet street. The girl went home and told her grandmother about the attack, and she called the police.

Chiwengwa was arrested, but was released on bail. As soon as he walked out of jail, he went to the girl’s home and killed her.
