Police operatives attached to Ajegunle police division of the Lagos command have arrested a suspected armourer of an armed robbery gang in Lagos State, western Nigeria.
The suspect identified as Yinka Ayoade, was arrested at Aroworade Street, off Ojo Road, in Ajegunle, with a gun and ammunition.
Ayoade was said to have just received a gun with two cartridges from robbers when policemen from the division swooped on them following a tip-off.
Other members of the gang were said to have managed to escape.
There has been incessant robbery attacks in the area on daily basis which had caused serious tension in the area.
P.M.NEWS gathered that the residents hardly sleep at night owing to the attacks by the gang.
A police source attached to Ajegunle police division who spoke under the condition of anonymity said, although Aroworade street is closer to Ajegunle police station, it is under Layeni division.
He said policemen received a tip-off that the robbers who raided some areas in Ajegunle between Saturday night and Sunday morning had returned to deliver the gun and also give the armourer his share of the booty when policemen swooped on them.
Confirming the story to P.M.NEWS, the police command spokesperson, SP Dolapo Badmos said the police in Lagos State are working very hard to ensure that criminals are arrested or displaced from the metropolis.
Her words: “Police are now alive to their duties and responsibilities than before. You just witnessed the parade of some suspects at the command headquarters.
“What policemen are doing in Ajegunle police station is not an exception. Under the leadership of my Commissioner of Police, Mr Fatai Owoseni who is on ground to motivate and supervise the police.”
