Online Praise Singers, A New Genre In Sycophancy In An Era Of Anti-Corruption By Ade Ilemobade

“Sweet words are like honey, a little may refresh, but too much gluts the stomach.” ? Anne Bradstreet

SYCOPHANTS are evil people in democracy, they are unprincipled apple-polishers with a servile demeanour a parasitic bootlicking monsters.

They are Evil because of their dishonourable, corrupt, iniquitous, nefarious, sinister, vicious, malicious, malevolent, morally reprehensible acts, influences and motives.

They have no well defined loyality, they are like prostitute (money for hand back for ground) FFK et al.

They are now invading the online space of national discourse.

I am deeply astonished whenever I perused Nigeria online publications for interesting news and  intellectually stimulating writings to massage my cerebral cotex especially during the cold winter months in the Northern hemisphere.

My greatest hobby/gift is the passion for reading, that I have developed since my elementary school days in Nigeria. Note, I do not like to read junks or praise singing sermonization one encounters these days online.

This is no value judgement positioning or argumentation but sincerely speaking it is irritating to be confronted with unbridled sycophancy pretension masking as news or treatise.

The mannerism in which conceited felons are being paraded with flashy sloganism in a poetic lyrical posture setting, adjectives conflagration spin of internal combustion raises fundamental question about our values.

We do not ask germane questions anymore about the sources of wealth and processes accompanying the acqusition of various paraphenalia of successfulness that we worshipped nowadays.

“But the conceited man did not hear him. Conceited people never hear anything but praise.” ? Antoine de Saint-Exupéry, The Little Prince

This is one of the raison d’être why corruption is prevalent and glorified in our clime because we as a people have given in to sycophancy, the evil castle in the air, heros deification obsequiousness. Yoruba would say ALAGBE mentality.

This conduct has metastasized to the extent that some members of our commune would rather die listening to meaningless praise singers than confrontation with constructive criticism.

This is an evil we have to stop if we are going to advance our democracy and the war on corruption.

This unfolding scenario wherein people like Tompolo, Metuh, Dasuki, Olu falae, et al are treated like superstars in our clime, suggests that we are in need of re-education or re-orientation of our mindset as a people, in order to chart a new value paradigm for the whole society.

This is the job/fundamental challenges facing the National orientation Agency (NOA) as we move forward with this cultural revolution, spearheaded by @mbuhari administration.

Minister Lai Mohammed said that his ministry would embark on nationwide sensitisation of Nigerians on corruption soon. That is good news to all Nigerians.

The Minister for Information and Culture has started well in this direction but we need to be visible and proactive starting with pupils in schools.

An anti corruption curriculum must be introduce as the campaign goes to the nooks and crannies of the geopolitical entity called Nigeria.
