Dried Fish and heroin: 64-year-old Rose Amanor of Ghana Woman smuggles 6 pounds of heroin into large dried fish

A woman was arrested on a charge of drug trafficking after smuggling a large amount of heroin into JFK Airport by hiding it in dried fish, police in New York said.

Now, 64-year-old Rose Amanor of Ghana, was sentenced to serve two years in prison after pleading guilty to drug trafficking.
After she completes her prison sentence, Amanor will be deported back to her country. According to the police investigation, Amanor arrived at JFK Airport from Ghana.

In her luggage, she had several large dried fish. A customs agent became suspicious of the fish and decided to check them.

Inside the fish, the customs agent found 6 pounds of heroin.

At first, Amanor blamed her son for forcing her to bring heroin to the country, and asked police to have mercy on her so she can go home with her family.

However, her version of the events were rejected by the judge because she kept changing her story. Amanor has already served 13 months in prison as she was denied bail.

She had requested a sentence of time served, but it was denied.
