The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Presidential Campaign Organisation has called for the arrest of some All Progressives Congress (APC) officials for allegedly operating an illegal radio station.
Also to be arrested in connection with the radio station, according to PDP, is the immediate past governor of Ekiti state, Dr Kayode Fayemi.
Director of Media and Publicity of the organisation, Mr Femi Fani-Kayode, made the call at a news conference on Wednesday in Abuja.
“Our attention had been drawn to the existence of an illegal Radio station called ‘’APC Radio’’ or ‘’Radio Chanji.
“This radio station has been broadcasting falsehood, propaganda and inciting comments periodically over the last few days and since inception,” he said.
According to Fani-Kayode, Amb. Yusuf Mamman, an APC leader, who has been given millions of dollars to start the radio station, is heading its operations.
“The objective of the radio station is to serve as a propaganda tool to fight the PDP-led government after the APC loses the elections on March 28,” he said.
He said that it was important that APC leaders were arrested and questioned on the operation “and illicit and dangerous agenda of this illegal Radio station’’.
He added that the PDP, would however, not allow the APC to achieve its objectives to destabilise Nigeria, nor would it allow the party to create a parallel government after the loss of the upcoming elections.
Fani-Kayode called on the Nigerian Broadcasting Corporation (NBC) to set its house in order, while ensuring that its rules were followed.
He stressed that the commission should use all means available to stop the illegal radio station from operating and block its illegal transmissions, if necessary.
“The opposition knows that they would lose the election and after this happens, it is their intention to begin to use this illegal Radio Station to incite Nigerians against the government.
“They seek to create mayhem, cause panic and create an atmosphere in which their supporters will be encouraged to slaughter and kill innocent Nigerians whilst the country burns,’’ he said.
According to him, they intend to create a major division and utter chaos within the Nigerian state, using religion and ethnicity.
“It is through the auspices of this illegal Radio Station that they intend to announce members of their planned parallel government, to nominate their ministers and to then create major crisis in our country,’’ he stated.
Fani-Kayode, however, said that the antics of the opposition party would not work, and alerted of a documentary the APC planned to air in its attempt to discredit not just President Goodluck Jonathan, but his government and the country.
He disclosed that the planned documentary entitled ‘’Nigerians, What Is Going On’’listed areas the APC claimed reflected the corrupt nature of the Nigerian people, the nature of Jonathan and his administration.
“All manner of lies, deceit, fabrication, slander, falsehood and misrepresentation of the basic facts are in the documentary.
“The whole thing is simply an attempt to denigrate the Nigerian people and bring us into disrepute before the international community,’’ he said.
According to him, two million dollars was budgeted for the said documentary and the services of not less than three specialists and well-known international spin doctors from two western countries were procured.
He explained that the whole idea was to perfect the work and release the documentary to international television networks and the Nigerian public three days to the elections. (NAN)
