1,925 death sentences were issued by governments across the world in 2013 and this climbed to 2,466 in 2014, according to a new report from Amnesty International.
While that figure may look high and many observers say that the real number may be higher, actual executions did decline 22 percent compared to the previous year.
However, one country led the way in terms of death sentences issued – Nigeria.
