The home state of President Goodluck Jonathan, Bayelsa, is not left out in the ga,e of defections currently rocking the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
According to Thisday, a member of the Bayelsa State House of Assembly; Hon. Alfred Egba has led other prominent chieftains of the party to the All Progressives Congress (APC). Egba announced his defection from the Peoples Democratic Party, (PDP) to the APC today
The lawmaker who served in different capacities in the State House of Assembly Committees, announced that he moved to the APC with his supporters and associates, including former Special Adviser on Special Duties to Sylva, Chief Sonme Ogilogi and a former commissioner in the State Independent Electoral Commission, Chief Tom Egba.
Egba’s defection is coming a day after the national leadership of the APC formally shut its doors against members of the PDP who have the intention of defecting.
The APC national chairman, Chief John Odigie-Oyegun, had earlier spoken about the recent wave of defections of politicians from the PDP to the APC, saying it was not good for Nigeria’s political development.
Also speaking on the issue, the president-elect, Muhammadu Buhari, said the APC has nothing to fear over the mass defection into the party. According to him, the PDP chieftains would have very little influence in the APC government.
