The Islamic State’s West Africa Province (ISWAP) has reshuffled its leaders in Nigeria.
The Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant, also known as the Islamic State of Iraq and Syria (ISIS), gave the order.
The rejig, which also affects the Shura Council, follows fighters’ surrender to the Nigerian military.
ISIS observed the failure to sustain the reunification of ISWAP and Boko Haram after the death of Abubakar Shekau.
Aba-Ibrahim is the new ISWAP leader. He replaces Abba-Gana. Malam Bako, Abdul-Kaka a.k.a. Sa’ad, Abu Ayun and Abba Kaka were appointed as new members of the Shura Council.
Muhammed Mustapha, recently named as the Amir of Marte, Muhammed Malumma, Muhammed Maina and Abubakar Dan-Buduma retain their positions as commanders.
ISWAP is in confusion after recording desertions and depletion of members in the past fews weeks.
A number of terrorists in Kirta, Wulgo, Sabon Tumbu, Jubularam, Kwalaram, Sigir, Kayowa, Kurnawa and others have surrendered or fled from Lake Chad.
The military has been targeting infrastructure, armouries, camps and high valued locations of the sect. Food shortage has worsened the problem.
“The surrender of fighters is largely due to loss of confidence, maltreatment, and growing insurrection between ISWAP and Jamā’at Ahl as-Sunnah lid-Da’wah wa’l-Jihād (JAS) after the death of Abubakar Shekau”, a source told PRNigeria.
“Many JAS fighters have been arrested and incarcerated in an ISWAP prison at Tumbum Kayowa for committing various crimes. Former commanders and Amirs were demoted.
“Some JAS commanders and fighters prefer to renounce their participation in terrorism and surrender to Nigerian troops than remain with ISWAP where they have been going through humiliation.”
