Troops of the 7 division Nigerian Army have successfully repelled a planned attack on Maiduguri, the Borno State capital by Boko Haram insurgents.
A security source, who spoke under anonymity revealed that the insurgents met their waterloo after they were sighted around Shuwari, some 10 kilometres from Maiduguri.
“We believe their target was to attack Maiduguri, but again, they lost out because we are not taking chances. The war against terrorism must be won and we are doing everything possible to ensure that those bad elements are dealt with”, he said.
According to him, more re-enforcement and support for the war against terrorism had been given and the soldiers were also now motivated.
“The fighting spirit is high. We are winning the war and they are loosing more men at every encounter. I believe you will hear more when the defence headquarters is ready with the details; I don’t know about casualties now, but several of them were killed”, he added.
Speaking on why the civilian population in G.R.A and around Giwa Barracks flee their homes, he said “we did not attempt to prevent anyone from fleeing their homes to safe locations. They all saw the rocket fire coming from the insurgents and like I said, you cannot stop anyone who is already afraid from fleeing”.
