Vehicle Falls Off Tow Truck And Crushes Woman To Death In Anambra

The victim was said to be crossing the road when the vehicle that was being towed got detached from the tow truck and killed the woman.

A woman has been confirmed dead after she was crushed by a vehicle at Okpoko Market junction of the Asaba-Onitsha express road in Anambra State.


It was gathered that the accident which occurred at about 12:20 pm on Wednesday, April 17, 2024, involved a commercial tow truck with registration number XA550BMA.

The victim was said to be crossing the road when the vehicle that was being towed got detached from the tow truck and killed the woman.

The Staff Officer, Public Education of the Federal Road Safety Corps, Charles Iyiegbuniwe, who confirmed the incident said the FRSC rescue team came to the scene and took the woman to the morgue.

“At about 12:20hrs of the day, a white-coloured commercial Tow Truck vehicle with registration number XA550BMA, model ML180, was towing a vehicle at an uncontrollable speed along the axis,” he said.

"A female adult was said to be crossing the road, the vehicle that was towed got detached from the tow truck and killed the woman,  while the truck continued movement.

"The FRSC rescue team came to the scene and took the woman to Toronto Mortuary. The Sector Commander Anambra State, Corps Commander Adeoye Irelewuyi sympathised with the family of the deceased.

"The corps commander said that they should put themselves together as a result of this sudden occurrence.

"He warned motorists, especially the Towing Truck drivers to exercise a high level of professionalism while discharging towing operation and use standard equipment to do such.

“He further stated that normal speed limit be observed by all categories of vehicles using the expressway.”
