A baby girl was rescued after being abandoned in the woods for 3 days.

A man found the crying baby abandoned in the woods covered in ant bites in Russia.

 The man called for help after he found the newborn baby while walking through the woods on the outskirts of Chelyabinsk.

Investigators said that the man, who was walking in the woods as a shortcut to work, saved the baby's life by finding her when he did. They also believe that the girl would have not lived much longer if she would have been left exposed to the elements.

Police said that a man called police after he heard the baby crying, and discovered the baby laying in a pile of leaves and covered with ants.

A police spokesperson said that it was clear that the child had been abandoned and her umbilical cord was still attached.

The ants feasted on the baby who is believed to be 3 days old. She was rushed to a hospital and is now in stable condition.

Doctors expect the baby to make a full recovery.

Police are still looking for the person responsible for dumping the girl in the woods and leaving her to die.
