At least One hundred and Twenty-two Senior Police Officers have been promoted to their respective new ranks by the Police Service Commission. The Commission (PSC) recognised the exceptional service of Assistant Inspector General of Police Yahaya Sahabo Abubakar, promoting him to Deputy Inspector General (DIG). DIG Abubakar, previously the AIG in Charge of Zone 14 Katsina, now takes over from DIG Habu Sani, who recently retired as the DIG in charge of FIB.
The PSC has also elevated five Commissioners of Police to the rank of Assistant Inspector General of Police, including Ahmed Ammani Adamu, former CP ICT department; Deputy Commandant Police Academy Wudil Kano; Gumel Mohammed Usaini, CP Kano State Command; Hamzat Adebola Ayinde, CP Okuoma Idegwu Basil in charge of Elections Force Headquarters; Achinyan Zachary Fera, CP Baba Zango Ibrahim, CP Mohhamed Isaku, and Margaret Agebe of the Special Fraud Unit.
The recent promotions within the Police Service Commission (PSC) recognise individual achievements and mark a strategic shift in the Force. Fifteen Deputy Commissioners of Police, including DCP Bassey Samuel Ewah, Osagie John Agans-Irabor, Edem Ita Selong, Monday Agbonika, Michael Okoh, Ayodele Oluyemi Sonubi, Daniel Edobor, Isa Danladi Nda, Akaniyene Ifebem Ezima, and Livingston Ikioye Orutugu, have been elevated to the position of Commissioner of Police. This strategic move is expected further to strengthen the force and its commitment to public safety.
36 Assistant Commissioners of Police were promoted to their next rank as Deputy Commissioners of Police, while 61 Chief Superintendents of Police (CSP) were promoted to Assistant Commissioner of Police. The elevations of these senior police officers followed an extraordinary management meeting presided over by Dr Solomon Arase, CFR, (RTD) Chairman of the Commission, held on Thursday, June 6th 2024. The list of senior Police Officers elevated by the Police Service Commission (PSC) appeared before the Commission in a session for the compulsory interactive promotion interview and requirements for their next promotion.
Ikechukwu Ani, the Head of Press and Public Relations, officially signed the statement. The Commission Chairman, Dr Arase, charged them with being genuinely committed to securing the Nigerian nation by effectively protecting lives and property and preventing and containing crimes and criminality across the country. The approving the promotions of the officers has been conveyed to the Inspector General of Police for implementation.
