Family of late Professor Ahmad Mustapha Falaki has accused the police authorities of trying to cover up policemen involved in the assassination of the university don.
Our correspondent recalled that Falaki who was the director of the Institute of Agricultural Research (IAR) of the Ahmadu Bello University, (ABU) Zaria was killed in Fala village of Tudun Wada local government area of Kano shortly after insurgents attacked Kibiya police station in February.
The Assistant Inspector General of Police in charge of zone 1, Tambari Y. Muhammad had on Wednesday said the interim report of investigation conducted on the case has revealed that the Professor was killed by mob and that six policemen are being quiz for negligence.
However, the Spokesperson of the family, Aminu Daneji in a statement said the police authorities have failed to conduct a credible investigation.
“Based on eye-witness account, it was the combined team of local constables from Rurum and policemen from Kibiya whom we hold responsible for the murder of Prof Falaki, our brother.
“Following the seizure of Prof Falaki's vehicle by suspected Boko Haram members, there were no more than a dozen or so villagers mingling with the deceased and his team and even sympathizing with them for the theft of their vehicle when the police arrived the scene and carried out their dastardly acts.
“ It may be recalled that the first account given by the police of that fateful evening was that the police force in Kibiya had killed one Boko Haram member and arrested two others. It is utterly false to claim that some 2000 villagers were on the scene and can be blamed for the act,” he said.
