Since Friday, a video claiming that the Donald Trump, president-elect of the United States, declared a policy to stop Nigerians from emigrating to the US has been making the rounds on social media.
The video, which has been recirculated on X and TikTok times, suggests that Trump announced a new policy to limit visa approvals for Nigerian professionals, encouraging them to invest their skills in Nigeria instead.
The original version of this clip was first posted on TikTok on Friday by an account named “queen of all,” where it has racked more than 38,000 likes and 4,000 comments as of press time.
On X, the video has been shared by users like Judaeda Blanco in a post that has more than 4,700 likes and 770,000 views. It has also been published by “Close and Control Borders,” in a post which, as of press time, has had 1,200 likes and 147,000 views.

Through deepfake analysis and reverse video searching, FIJ found that the video clip had been heavily altered. The source of the footage was from Trump’s election night watch party speech in West Palm Beach, Florida.
FOX News, an American Television, had published the on November 5, and it had to do with Nigeria or visa restrictions.
Most importantly, the audio component of this viral video returned a 13% authenticity score, after FIJ subjected it to an artificial intelligence analysis on Hiya Deepfake Voice Detector. This suggests that the audio has been manipulated.
The voice in the video was altered to sound like Trump was making these statements, but in reality, he did not address Nigerians or announce any visa policy changes.
