At least 16 unit commanders of the Road Decongestion Department, Anambra State Ministry of Transport, have been sacked for alleged corrupt practices.
Making this disclosure to newsmen yesterday, the director in charge of Operations, Decongestion and Enforcement, Hon. Ndubuisi Christian Okonkwo said, “They were sacked for self enrichment and illegal activities.
“I have since replaced them with new commanders because if you allow them to continue in office the situation will be worse. I wish them well wherever they may find themselves.
“Government work is a serious business and they have been warned during workshops/training to avoid any act capable of bringing image’);”>the image of the road decongestion unit to ridicule,” Okonkwo stated.
He further said that it was because of easy identification that he imposed a badge on the neck of the officials and his personal number’);”>phone number, so that the public could easily reach him when the officials derail from their duty. Okonkwo stressed that the interest should be on how to assist Governor Willie Obiano in sanitising the state and not to worship money or engage in corrupt practices.
He commended the governor for his infrastructural development of the state, saying “Obiano is trying and he doesn’t tolerate nonsense.” He expressed satisfaction that the decongestion unit had been able to clear the roads of obstructions, adding that it was difficult to now experience traffic grid-lock in the entire state.
