An Umuahia-based tailor last Wednesday stabbed his brother to death with a pair of scissors.
The tragic incident occurred at a cluster shed at Plot 39 Kaduna Street by Umuwaya Road when Iheanyi John stabbed Anthony Kalu, also a tailor, with a pair of scissors on the throat over a minor quarrel. Both the assailant and the victim are said to hail from Nguzu Edda in Afikpo-South Local Government Area of Ebonyi State.
Witnesses said that that the scissors pierced Kalu’s throat and came out to the other side, leaving him bleeding from his nose, mouth and eyes.
Kalu was rushed to the Federal Medical Centre, Umuahia, where doctors confirmed him dead.
It was learnt that John who had bolted away when his victim slumped, later turned himself in to the Central Police Station.
Sources said Kalu met his untimely death during a meeting of all the tailors at the cluster that fateful day to discuss modalities for their movement to a new location.
A source said that a quarrel ensued between John and the deceased when John accosted him for allegedly coming late to the meeting. The quarrel was said to have snowballed into a fight.
Another source alleged that Kalu had stabbed John on the forehead and while efforts were intensified to separate the duo, John latched onto a scissors and landed a stab on Kalu’s throat.
Police has waded into the matter while Kalu’s body has been deposited in the mortuary..
